THE PAIN OF GIVING MY ALL
By Yegon Emmanuel
As long as I remember
I live by the words of Lumumba
in whose school of thought-am a member
All year round fron January to December
My dear friend
I think you no harm
I will do you no harm
I wish you no harm
On you I speak no harm
Through crook and crood I stand
with you demanding no refund
in all circumstances I understand
for I treasure you as a friend
But
all these you seldom note
even to appreciate you do not
all efforts to strengthen the knot
the pillars of friendship you demote
You take pride in my failure
my sacrifices you take for leisure
in my sorrow you derive pleasure
animosity of the highest measure
In the end
my generosity brings me pain
the case of Abel in the hands of Cain
you know it,heaven does-its plain
That in giving my all,I was slain
with my all heart its you I trusted
on everything I never doubted
even whenever you insisted
As a friend i never hesitated.
For my gratitude you are the reason
To God, for being a lesson
that I have learnt in this season
That life is full of treason.
